Turf Life, Monday 24 October 2016, 8pm
We were very lucky to have the opportunity to be the subject of a program made for television and internet called Turf Life. This Racing.com program gives a great insight into a day in the life of the Bendigo Equine Hospital. See our hospital in action on Racing.com television Channel 68 (regional), Channel 78 (metropolitan), or at https://www.racing.com/shows/turf-life
The practice has recently upgraded their dynamic respiratory scope to allow for better quality recordings to be made and more upper airway problems to be diagnosed.
Upper airway problems are a common complaint in the racehorse. Abnormal noises are often associated with a problem in the upper airway. Upper respiratory noises are often the cause of poor performance. The dynamic respiratory scope or “over the ground scope” allows the horse’s airway to be visualised while the horse is worked. By observing the horse’s airway at exercise, a true appreciation of the function of the larynx under “race conditions” can be gained. This allows us to diagnose problems which cannot be seen on a resting scope.
Please feel free to call one of our vets to discuss whether the scope could benefit your racehorse.
