The Bendigo Equine Hospital has the facilities, equipment, staff and experience to perform a wide range of surgical procedures, including:

  • Arthroscopic surgery (“keyhole” surgery into joints) – for bone chips, osteoarthritis or “OCD”
  • Colic surgery
  • Upper respiratory tract surgery – for example, the “tie back” operation (for roarers), or soft palate surgery. Along with our resident surgeons, Dr Sarah Jalim and Dr Tom Russell, we are fortunate to have available the services of Dr Alistair MacLean. Alistair has a longstanding reputation in the area of respiratory surgery, and can perform the surgery at our clinic, if requested.
  • Routine soft tissue surgery – for example cryptorchids (“rigs”)
  • Wound repair and casting
  • Foal surgeries – for example, hernia repairs or correction of angular limb deformities by periosteal stripping or transphyseal bridging
  • Surgery of the reproductive tract – for example, repair of tears or correction of urine pooling
  • Orthopaedic surgery – for example, fracture repairs
